Matthew P. Curtis, 87, of Newington, beloved husband of Margaret Libaris Curtis, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the Hospital of Central CT in New Britain. Matthew was born in Beacon, NY, on August 26, 1923. Matthew was a former New Britain resident before moving to Newington in 1967. He attended Siena College and was a graduate of the Progressive School of Photography. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Matthew worked with his father-in-law, John Libaris, operating the Limperis Banana Co. He was also employed as an inspector at Fafnir Bearing Co., retiring in 1985. Matthew was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, AHEPA, and the Golden Rascals. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Friendship Lodge in Southington. In addition to his devoted wife Margaret, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Martin Jensen of Westford, MA, Ann and David Lea of Berlin, CT; a sister, Madeline Jameson of Washington Township, NJ; four grandchildren, Connor Jensen, Parker Jensen, Matthew Lea, and Ryan Lea; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 PM at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 301 West Main Street, New Britain. Burial, with military honors, will be in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours are from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
