Matrie-Ann Baskerville

Matrie-Ann Baskerville, 78, of New Britain, Connecticut, departed this life on October 23, 2026.

Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Matrie-Ann grew up in Charter Oak Terrace. She attended Greater Hartford Community College, where she earned a place on the Dean’s List. She went on to work in the actuarial department at Travelers Insurance Company for nearly 27 years.

Matrie-Ann took pride in her appearance and was always sharply dressed for work, beautifully coordinating her skirt suits, scarves, and brooches. She was also a member of the Toastmasters Club, where her public speaking and leadership skills shone brightly.

Matrie-Ann had a special gift for bringing people together through food. She was known for her famous fudge, which she lovingly made for family, friends, and even the employees at her dentist’s office. She also enjoyed baking chocolate cakes and preparing her delicious green beans and potatoes for family gatherings.

Above all, Matrie-Ann adored her grandchildren and great-grandson, who lovingly called her Nana and Grandma-Nana. She cherished their phone calls and treasured every moment of their conversations.

Music was another joy in Matrie-Ann’s life. One of her favorite songs was “One in a Million” by Larry Graham, and whenever she sang it, she did so with such passion that you would have thought she had written the song herself. Matrie-Ann was also immensely proud of her daughter Teresa and never missed an opportunity to tell others that her daughter knew Tae Kwon Do and spoke fluent Spanish. She would often ask her to demonstrate her skills, proudly celebrating her accomplishments especially after publishing her book, "Choice Road."

Matrie-Ann’s warmth, personality, sense of style, love of family, and beautiful smile will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her.

Matrie-Ann believed in God and understood the power of prayer. Her faith was a meaningful part of her life, and she found comfort in turning to God through prayer.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gary Lloyd Baskerville (aka Tony). She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Teresa Simmons; granddaughter, Mercedes Claudio; grandson, Gary Saevon Battle; great-grandson, Ayden Lopez; brothers, Clarence Simmons of Hartford, Matthew Simmons (Okcha), retired military, and King Simmons of New Britain; and sisters, Rosella Michaud (Melvin) and Eugenia Golden, both of New Britain. She also leaves a host of extended family members, friends, and loved ones who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

A memorial service celebrating Matrie-Ann’s life will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 5 PM at Bethesda Apostolic Church, 249 Stanley Street, New Britain, Connecticut. Memorial donations may be made to HRA of New Britain, Inc., 180 Clinton St., New Britain, CT 06053.
