Matea Saavedra Santiago

Matea Saavedra Santiago, 82, of New Britain and San German, Puerto Rico, widow of Jose A. Santiago, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 24, 2018 at the Hospital of Central CT surrounded by her loving family.  Born in San German, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Joaquin Saavedra and Antonia Arroyo.  Matea was a New Britain resident for over 50 years and was a member of St. Mary Church.

Surviving are her children, Jose A. Santiago and his wife Sonja, Jaime Santiago and his wife Lydia, Adam L. Santiago, Luis A. Santiago, Carmen J. Santiago, Albert Santiago, Alex Santiago, and Amalya Santiago Leonard and her husband Michael R. Leonard; her brothers and sisters, Luis Saavedra, Ramona Cruz, Carmen Arroyo, Maria Santos, Ada Rivera, Maria Ayala, and Maria Santana; twenty grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two daughters, Nelly Santiago and Maria Del Carmen Santiago; four brothers, Jeronimo Saavedra, Alejandro  Saavedra, Efrain Saavedra, and Joaquin Saavedra.
