Marylou Sanders

MaryLou (Sarra) Sanders died peacefully on Tuesday, May 9 th . She was predeceased by her husband Jim Sanders. She leaves behind her children Mary Ellen (Vince) Arcarese, Karen (Scott) Myrick, Gayle Connolly and Jim Sanders, as well as her grandchildren Jesse and Alisha Sanders, Joe and Katherine Arcarese, Zachary Connolly and Kayden Myrick. She also leaves 3 great grandchildren, Zaidynn, Edward and Adelina Sanders.

MaryLou was a proud graduate of the University of Bridgeport earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and starting her career at Hartford Hospital. She was a life-long learner and earned her Master’s in Healthcare Management from the University of Hartford. She also spent many years working at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Connecticut. Mom loved professional events and even after retirement remained an active participant in the Healthcare Financial Management Association and spent many hours working for the Legislature of the State of Connecticut.

Mom was a majorette for NBHS, graduating in 1953 and loved supporting the school. You could find her many nights in the stands of a football game singing “Bingo” or the alma mater and cheering on the team. She loved the Madrigal Feast and attended every year that she could. It brought her many years of joy.

She was a community leader and provided many years of service to the Republican Town Committee, Sons of Italy and the Board of Assessment Appeals. She was a reader at church, volunteered for many fundraisers, and gave her time and talents to many events over the years.

Her impact was broad, her legacy deep. We will miss her sense of humor and her calm and practical outlook on life.

The family thanks the staff at the Jerome Home for the outstanding care they have provided. We are grateful.
