Mary (Teranes) Lemnotis, 98 of New Britain, died peacefully at home, Friday, Oct 5, 2018, with her family at her side.
Born in Unionville, CT, she was the daughter of the late Anthony Teranes and the late Anna (Demos) Teranes Lewis. She was the step daughter of the late John G. Lewis. In 1941, she married the love of her life, the late Andrew P. Lemnotis II. Together they built a wonderful loving life. They had 3 children; Andrea Lemnotis, Irene Sklavouris, both of New Britain and Peter A. Lemnotis, & wife Linda, of Plantsville.
Mary was a very active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, being a member of choir since the age of 13. She was also a member of Daughters of Penelope, Philoptochos Society, Kitchen Club & Golden Rascals. Mary & Andy started Town and Country Transportation in New Britain in 1949, which is still run & operated by their children.
In addition to her children, she is survived by her sister Sultana “Susie” Peterson of New Britain; her grandchildren, Margo Sklavouris of Plainville, Andrew Sklavouris & his girlfriend, Jo-Ann Gorka of New Britain, Tamika Harvey of East Orange, NJ, Philip Lemnotis & his wife Rebecca of Bristol; Andrew P. Lemnotis III & his husband Johnathan of Bristol, Christina Caccioppoli & her husband Brian of Ashaway, RI, and “grandson” Michael Esposito of New Britain. Mary had one great granddaughter, who was her pride & joy, Rhiana Mary Sklavouris of Plainville. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Molly Pelletier of Waterbury.
Affectionately known as Yiaya to everyone, Mary was always a kind, caring, classy, loving woman who put her family and church above everything.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours are Tuesday from 5-8 PM with a Trisagion prayer read at 7:30 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain and on Wednesday morning at St. George Greek Orthodox Church from 9-10 AM. Memorial Donations may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 301 West Main St., New Britain, CT 06052 or to the American Heart Association (Americanheart.org).
