Martin Lucien Clebowicz

Martin L. Clebowicz, 94, of New Britain, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2009 at New Britain General Hospital after a brief illness A native of New Britain, he attended local schools and was a graduate of E.C. Goodwin Technical School. Upon graduation, he served three years with the Civilian Conservation Corps before joining the New Britain Machine Company where he retired after 44 years as a machinist. During his years of retirement, he remained very active serving many years with the Greater New Britain Opera Association as a board member. He was also a member of the Spartans Club and the New Britain Machine Retires Club. He also enjoyed cartoon sketching and theatre. Mr. Clebowicz is survived by a sister, Emily Piehl of New Britain; a daughter, Diana Cogswell of Columbia, MD; two sons, Martin W. Clebowicz of East Hampton and Brian A. Clebowicz of Manhattan Beach, CA; four grandchildren, Martin William Clebowicz Jr. of Glouster, VA, Nicole D. Clebowicz of Middletown; Matthew and Jason Clebowicz of Manhattan Beach, CA; and two Godchildren, Wallace "Wally" Clebowicz and Robert Chmura. Martin was predeceased by his former wife, Lillian Flannigan Clebowicz; by his spouse, Eleanora Scotti Clebowicz; and by his fiancée, Evelyn Heriander. He was also predeceased by a brother, Dr. Alexander Clebowicz, and by a sister, Elizabeth Peterson. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Middletown. Calling hours are Thursday from 6-8 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home.
