Marion Elizabeth Carlson

Marion Elizabeth Johnson Carlson, 81, of Newington, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004. She was predeceased by her beloved and devoted husband, Harold Carlson. Born in New Britain on Dec. 23, 1922, she was the daughter of the late George H. and Edith Ostlund Johnson. She attended local schools and graduated with honors from CCSU with a B.S. and a M.S. Degree in Education. Marion taught school in New Britain for 30 years. She was a member and active with the New Britain Federation of Teachers and American Federation of Teachers. She was a member of Bethany Covenant Church, the Sanctuary Choir, and served as a Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Primary Superintendent in charge of special programs. She also served as a church greeter and as a volunteer with the church tape ministry for eleven years, assisting those unable to attend the church services. Surviving are her beloved son, Richard Harold Carlson of Newington; two loving grandchildren, Stephanie Carlson and Aaron Carlson; two nieces Elin Marie Papantones of Maryland and Kristen Widham of Waterford; a nephew, John Carlson of Woodstock; many grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins. Marion enjoyed spending time with her son, grandchildren, and her whole family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 AM at Bethany Covenant Church, 785 Mill St. Berlin. Burial will be in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Calling hours are Saturday morning from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
