Marilyn Lays

Marilyn Lays better known as “Maruca” by most of her family and friends, 56, of New Britain, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on February 15, 2023, surrounded by immediate family members. Marilyn was the life of the party. She loved to make people happy and have fun as she danced to her Latin music and other genres. Marilyn always had to represent herself making sure she looked good not only with her outfits, but also her hair and makeup.

During her youth and part of her adulthood Marilyn was a member of the New Britain PAL (Police Athletic League). She competed with other town leagues in parades, roller skating in the Plainville, CT Roller Palace skating rink, having fun and creating many memories with family and friends. Marilyn had a profound love for her nieces and nephews who she considered as her children. She was the go to “Titi”, and they treasured her unconditional love for them. Before her medical conditions, Marilyn was a compassionate Caregiver to her elderly patients at their homes.

Marilyn is survived by her mother Carmen Rivera, her sisters, Evelyn Lays, Margarita Pratt, and Maribel Rodriguez. Also, her closest nieces and nephews Jessie Draper, Mariah Garcia, Nyomi Lays, Nadine Sanabria, Angel Garcia III, and David Lays Jr., among other nephews. In addition, her partner Marcos Marrero, as well as many uncles, aunts, and cousins.  Marilyn was preceded in death by her brother David Lays and sister Maria “Chelma” Garcia.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
