Marie "Mimi" Evelyn Rivers

Marie Evelyn "Mimi" Rivers, 85, of New Britain, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Charles Thomas Rivers and Evelyn (Kallberg) Rivers. Marie was a New Britain resident most of her life and was a graduate of New Britain High School. She recently attended her 67th high school reunion. Marie was formerly employed as a register nurse at the Hospital for Special Care. After retiring, Marie went back to school and graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy. Marie was a church organist at the Reformation Lutheran Church. She loved to play the piano and enjoyed playing at various convalescent homes including Cherry Brook Health and Rehab Center in Canton. Surviving are her daughter, Donna Roberts and her husband Robert of New Britain; a son, Charles Jeffrey Nyquist and his wife Kathleen "Katie" of New Britain; four grandchildren, Jason Vocke and his wife Heather, Adam Nyquist and his wife Cynthia, Shayla DeVito and her husband Christopher, and Ellen Roberts; and four great-grandchildren, Jack Vocke, Claire Vocke, Abbe DeVito, and Ryan DeVito. She was predeceased by her former husband, Donald H. Nyquist and James P. Furlong. A memorial service will be held on November 28th, at 11:00 am at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain, CT.
