Maria Sanchez

Maria Sanchez was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico on January 29, 1950 to Angel Ramon Sanchez Tapia and Maria Esther Hernandez Rivera.  She passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at home in New Britain.

At the age of 17, she relocated to Hartford Connecticut where she settled and gave birth to five children, Frankie, Luz Maria, Miguel, Betsy and Maria.  She fought to provide a better future for her kids.  She loved to listen to Christian music, particularly Marino and watch the televised services on a weekly basis from House of Restoration Church in Hartford however her greatest joy were her children and family. She was a warrior until the very end.

She is survived by her husband Antonio “Tony” Santiago, her mom Maria Esther Hernandez, who lives in Puerto Rico.  Her siblings: Teresa, Lydia, Norma, Hilda, Rafael, Richard, Carlos, Sonia y Angel Ramon.   Her children and in-laws, Frankie Esquilin, Miguel Angel “Mickey” and Vivian Mercado, Betsy Mercado and Shawn Owens and Maria “Chavo” Mercado and Jose Leon.  Her beloved grandchildren: Miguel Mercado, Jonathan Leon, Ashley Leon, Christopher Leon, Isabel Leon and Brandon Leon, Jasmine Owens, Brianna Owens, Angel Mercado, Mark Mercado, Nicolas Mercado and Jimena Mercado and her many nieces, nephews and friends that she loved and whom loved her.
