Maria Mendoza

Maria Mendoza, 84, formerly of New Britain, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Charlotte Harbor Healthcare in Port Charlotte, FL. She was the widow of Cristobal Mendoza. Born in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Marcano and Gumercinda Flecha. She was a New Britain resident for 60 years and was an active member of St. Mary Church for 55 years. She was a member of las Damas del sagardo Corazon, Lady Sacred Heart, Cursillista since 1967, and was active in numerous church clubs. Surviving are her daughter, Mary Lou Kopinja and her husband Michael of Florida; a son, William Mendoza of Manchester, CT; her brothers, Jesus and Elyn Marcano of Chicago, IL, and Peter Marcano of Puerto Rico; her grandchildren, Jennifer Kopinja, Susan and Paul Woike, Ebony and Karl Luberda, Natalie and Karol Plewa, Rebecca, and Danny Mendoza; her great-grandchildren, Lilly, Vanessa and Joseph Woike, and Dominic Plewa; a dear daughter-in-law, Damaris Mendoza; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and madrina to many. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Rafael Mendoza, and a sister, Galy DeRosa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 am at St. Mary Church in New Britain. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
