Margaret C. Farone, 74, of Berlin, wife of William Farone, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 21, 2025.
Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Jean (Forsyth) Cabelus. Margaret first met William in school in 1968. They graduated in 1969 and were married in 1971. Margaret began working at Berlin Savings Bank and retired as the Manager of Operations after 28 years of service. She then began her own custom screen-printing business called “Fit to a Tee,” which she operated until 2024. Margaret loved to cook, garden, and spend time with her family. They always looked forward to her Famous mac-n-cheese, Blonde Brownies, Pepperoni Bread, and Christmas cookies during family get-togethers. Margaret’s love of angels and yellow roses was present throughout her home and reflects her strong faith and love of friendships.
Margaret was a life-long devoted member of St. Paul Catholic Church, where she volunteered at the food pantry and participated in the food share distribution.
Margaret loved, owned, and rode horses. In 1972, she began the Berlin 4-H Trail Dusters Club and was the Leader for 20 years. Margaret and her 4-H club ran horse shows at the Berlin Fair Grounds, did charitable acts for local convalescent homes, and would travel to see the National Horse Show in New York City.
Margaret also loved dogs, especially German Shorthaired Pointers. She and William owned and bred show dogs for 32 years and had 5 generations of German Shorthaired Pointers. They received the Best in Show Award after 25 years of participation. Margaret was a member of the GSPCA, the Farmington Valley Kennel Club, where Margaret served as secretary for 15 years, the Sporting Dog Group in Worcester, MA, and the New England Sporting Group Association, where she served as treasurer for 5 years.
Margaret and William were devoted New England Whaler Fans for 13 seasons, holding season tickets and traveling to away games, as far as Montreal.
Surviving are her beloved husband of 54 years, William Farone; her dogs, Emmie and Freeze; her sister, Virginia (Joseph) Philippon; her special niece, Julie (Neil) Pade; her nephew, Joseph (Patti) Philippon; her nephew, Jason (Dayna) Philippon; her sister-in-law, Pat (John) Jarush; her niece, Brenda Cabelus; her nephew, Paul (Michelle) Cabelus; her nephew, Kevin (Sarah) Cabelus; and many great-nieces and great-nephews whom she treated like her own grandchildren. Margaret is also survived by many special friends, including Lucy and Frank Ruane, Donna and Phil Roy, Jean Bernier, Tracy Sarama, and Susie Sumner.
