Manuel A. Velez-Correa, 69, of New Britain, beloved husband of Myrna Colon, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, son of Leonor Correa and Ramon Velez and brother of Jorge Correa, Daniel Velez and Ana M. Velez. He received a Bachelor's Degree in secondary education from Turabo University. He was a former Hartford resident and a New Britain resident for the past 10 years. Manuel was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed by the Hartford Public Schools where he shared his love for music. Surviving are his children, Manuel "Noly" Velez, Manuel " Pilly" Velez, Omayra Velez, Cherly Colon, Samuel Cotto, Wanda DeJesus, Valentin Ramos and Willie Mayes; his many grandchildren, José "Juny" Oyola, Janiel Crespo, Samantha "Chama" Cotto, Esmeralda Velez, Misael Velez, Joshua Mayes, Isaiah Mayes, Anthony Crespo, Kayla Liseno, Desiree Velez, Lilly D'Ambrosio, Joey D'Ambrosio, Jeremiah Miller and Ashley Phillips. He was predeceased by two daughters, Zelideth "Chela" D'Ambrosio and Liza Mayes. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St New Britain. Burial, with military honors, will be in the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. Calling hours are Monday from 6-8 PM.
