Mabel Fielding Poppel, 81, of Kensington, died Saturday, January 11, 2003 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was the widow of Philip E. Poppel who died in 1987. Born in England, she was the daughter of the late John and Winifred Buxton Fielding. She was a Kensington resident since 1939 and was formerly employed at American Savings Bank. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, the Altar Guild and St. Mary's Guild at the church. Mabel loved to travel. She visited all seven continents, and continued to be an active traveler until last year. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Philip R. Poppel of Kensington, and David and Rebekah Poppel of Windsor; a brother, Roy Fielding of Tulsa OK; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Poppel and Nicholas Poppel. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, West Main St., New Britain. Burial will be in Maple Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday evening from 6-8 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain.
