Lydia Knopf, 96, of Kensington, died peacefully on Monday, Nov.19, 2007 at Ledgecrest Health Care Center surrounded by her loving family. Born in Bridgeport, CT, she was the daughter of the late Adolph and Anna Wollenberg Renn. Lydia was a former Windsor and Bristol resident and resided in Kensington most of her life. She was formerly employed at Ledgecrest Health Care Center, American Papergoods, and at Willard School before retiring. She was a devoted and charter member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and the Ladies League at church. Lydia was known for her strong faith, devotion to her family and her willing spirit to help others. She enjoyed crafts, and was well-known for lovingly sending homemade recycled greeting cards. Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Bendzinski and her husband Everett of Newington; two sons, Richard Knopf and his wife Irene of Kensington, Harvey Knopf and his wife Dolores also of Kensington; two sisters, Clara Bonke and Esther Murdock, both of CO. She was the "Best Grandma Ever" to her six grandchildren, Cynthia DiPierdomenico, Kenneth Knopf, Gary Knopf, Timothy Knopf, Matthew Bendzinski, and Laurie Colborn; and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Martha Haddock and Dorothy Kramer, and by two brothers, Albert Renn and Reinhardt Renn. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 1103 Chamberlain Highway, Kensington. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours will be Friday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at church.
