Luis A. Ortiz, 58, of New Britain, Connecticut, passed away on May 4, 2026. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Luis carried with him a strong spirit, a deep love for his family, and a gift for helping others throughout his life.
Luis was a devoted husband to Mirian Mendez and a proud father to Giovanni Ortiz and Michael Ortiz. He was also a father figure to Jeremy Figueroa, offering guidance, support, and care as if he were his own.
He was a loving grandfather to Savannah Ortiz, Zaia Ortiz, and Santos Padilla, who brought him immense joy and pride. He also found great happiness in welcoming a newly born baby, Soraya Figueroa, into his life as a cherished grandchild.
A man of many talents, Luis truly mastered the art of problem-solving. Whether he was fixing computers, repairing cars, working on homes, or lending a hand to someone in need, there was little he couldn’t do. He earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science, but his knowledge extended far beyond any one field, he had a natural ability to understand how things worked and, more importantly, how to make them better. In many ways, he didn’t just fix things, he helped fix lives, always willing to give his time, wisdom, and care to those around him.
Luis will be remembered for his generosity, his intelligence, and the quiet strength with which he supported his family and friends. His presence was a steady and reassuring force, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain.
Luis’s legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the lives he touched, and the countless things he made whole again. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered
