On the morning of Feb., 18, 2018, Lucy Helen (Atashian) Horenian, 91, our beloved Mom, grandma, sister, aunt, and great aunt, completed her life’s journey peacefully at home surrounded in the embraces of her family.
Lucy, “Lulu Bells”, was born on July 5, 1926 in New Britain, CT and was a lifelong resident. She was the youngest daughter of the late Avedis and Tackoohi Atashian, wife of the late Ara H. Horenian Sr. with whom she spent 58 years caring for each other. Lucy is survived by her three children and their spouses, Ara Jr. and his wife Wanda of Oxford, Kathleen Zoccoli and her husband Richard of Terryville, with whom she resided for the past 5 years, and Lisa and her husband John of Warrington, PA.

Lucine is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Jennifer (Zoccoli) Ranaudo and her husband Joe, Richie Zoccoli and his wife Colleen, John and Colin Joyce, Amy McVay and Sara Tylinski.  Lulu Bells shared a special bond with her niece Karen (Sagherian) Fallo of Farmington, CT and several nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews.  Lucy was predeceased by her brothers Krikor Atashian and Aram Atashian, Sr. and her sister Marian Sagherian.

Lucy was a lifelong member of St. Stephen’s Armenian Apostolic church, where she served as treasurer on the board and was a member of the Ladies Guild. In addition to creating a nurturing home and raising her children, Lucy was a founding member of the Do Re Mommies singing group at Holmes School, Brownie Troop leader and assistant Girl Scout Leader for several years. Lucy returned to the workforce and held various accounting positions at The Traveler’s Insurance Co., St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and Our Growing Concern. She created beautiful arts, sewed, traveled, enjoyed spur of the moment casino runs with friends and her son-in-law Rich and treasured her time spoiling her grandchildren and teaching them grace and humility.
Her family would like to thank her aides/ RN’s over the last year, Kim, Jessie, Lu, Stacy and Joanne. We would especially like to thank her caring angels Lisa Bovee and Jeremy Musshorn from VITAS, who provided our Mom with exceptional care during her final days.
