Lucia "Lucy" Lombardo Coscina, 93, of New Britain, died peacefully at home on Wednesday September 24, 2008. Born in Winsted on September 27, 1914 and a lifelong resident of New Britain, she was the daughter of Salvatore and Maria Amoroso Lombardo. Lucy was predeceased by her beloved husband of sixty-six years, Casimiro "Cas" Coscina. She was the loving mother of Marlene and Dennis, and her family was the center of her life. Lucy was a gentle, caring woman who will always be remembered for her true elegance and grace. As a young woman in 1930, Lucy was one of few women who obtained her driver's license and drove a Model-T Ford. As a young couple, she and Cas enjoyed many nights dancing to Swing music and attending movies at local theaters. Lucy was an accomplished dressmaker with a flair for fashion who created clothing, often of her own design, for herself and her family members. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting afghans for every new baby born to her family and friends. Each meal Lucy prepared was a sumptuous feast enjoyed by all who shared dinners at her table in the tradition of her family's Italian heritage. She was an active member of St. Ann's Church serving as the President of the Ladies' Guild and an instructor of Catechism for over ten years. Lucy was a truly devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother forever concerned with the well-being of everyone she loved. She was most content when she was surrounded by her family, and she will live in their hearts forever. Lucy is survived by her daughter Marlene Coscina Tufano and her husband Joseph of New Britain, and her son Dennis Coscina and his wife Trudy of East Windsor. She leaves wonderful memories with her six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Lana Tufano Angelo, her husband Ron, and their children Alissa and Ronnie; Gary Tufano and his wife Rosanna, and their children Gary and Amanda; Greg Tufano, his wife Tina, and their son Giancarlo; Denise Coscina, Douglas Coscina, and Gordon Burnham. She was predeceased by her brothers Felix and Joseph Lombardo and her sister Filomena Lombardo Fidi. She is survived by her sister-in-law Santina Lombardo and several neices, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main Street, New Britain followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann's Church.
