Lucia “Lucy” Cataldo, 91, of New Britain, widow of Vito Cataldo, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 14, 2016 at Autumn Lake Health Care.
Born on August 5th, 1924 in Buccheri, Sicily, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Gaetano and Paolina (Russo) Zafarana. Lucia was a former resident of Chicago and Italy before moving to New Britain in 1964. She was employed as a seamstress at a number of companies, including Hart Schaffner & Marx in Chicago, as well as Tops Coat, Sandra Paula, and American Bazaar in New Britain. Lucia was a member of St. Ann’s Church.
Surviving are her son, Joseph Cataldo of East Hampton; her daughter, Victoria Pavasaris and her husband Richard of Kensington; two brothers, Vito Zaffarana, his wife Zina, their two daughters of Berlin, Daniela and husband Craig Poulin their daughter Stefanie and Lillian and husband Bill Philippon their two sons Greg and Zach and Gaetano Zaffarana his wife Lucia, their two sons, Franco and Paolo, and their families in Italy; six grandchildren and their spouses, Michael Cataldo, Nicholas and Krista Cataldo, Steven and Brianna Cataldo, Pauline and Russ Parrish, Peter and Stacey Pavasaris, Vickey and Matt Adams; and five great-grandchildren, Joey, Christopher, Max, Jake and Grace.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 PM at St. Ann’s Church. Entombment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
