Louise Marie Rushkosky Smilnak entered into eternal rest, on Friday, July 9, 2004. She was the daughter of Herman and Augusta Michaelis Rushkosky and the devoted wife and widow of Peter Smilnak. Born in New Britain, she attended local schools, graduating from New Britain High School in 1930. Louise, upon graduating from New Britain General Hospital of Nursing and doing postgraduate work at Providence Lying In Hospital in Rhode Island, was a staff nurse for many years at NBGH. Louise was a loving mother, a wonderful confidant, an avid reader, talented knitter, an enthusiastic fan of UCONN basketball and Nascar Racing. She was a member of St. Paul Church and a member of the New Britain General Hospital Alumni Association. Louise is survived by three daughters and a son and their spouses, Karen Hollandsworth and her husband Roger of Boulder Creek, California, Maryann Rothstein and her husband Harold of East Berlin, with whom she made her home, Richard Smilnak and his wife June of Southington, and Linda Bakcsy and her husband Thomas of Perkasie, Pennsylvania. She loved and adored her three granddaughters, who brought so much joy to her life, Larleen Smilnak of Middlefield, Kristy Hollandsworth of California, and Melissa Bakcsy of Pennsylvania. A daughter of special grace and love, Barbara Jean, and a half sister Marie Greenlaw predeceased Louise. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Paul's Church. Burial will be in West Lane Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday morning from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain. Memorial donations, in her memory, may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
