Louis J. Scarfo, Jr. 76, of New Britain, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024 surrounded by family at the Hospital of Central Connecticut.
He was born on June 7, 1948, in New Britain. He was the son of Louis A. Scarfo and Natalie C. (Lazzaro) Scarfo of New Britain. Louis was a retired chemist employed at the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection for over 20 years. He was a member of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Kensington. Louis’s favorite pastime was hitting car shows in his 1969 Mach 1 Mustang and bringing home countless trophies. He loved crabbing with his nieces and nephews and enjoyed blue crabs stewed in tomato sauce over linguini. Louis cherished tending to his family’s vegetable garden and spending time at the local farmer’s market. He adored his beloved cats and had a special place in his heart for all of God’s creatures.
Louis was predeceased by his wife, Mary Ann Scarfo. He is survived by his two sisters, Irene DiPace of Berlin and Caroljoyce Cannito of Cromwell; six nieces and nephews, Donna and Jeffrey Veach of Kensington, Diane and Michael Charette of Cromwell, Michael and Mary Scarfo of Guilford, Craig and Michelle Scarfo of Amherst, MA, Danielle and Jan Linert of Worthington, Ohio, Gregory Cannito and Steven H. Zindler of Danbury; Eight grand nieces and nephews, Heather and Steven Cios, Callie and Austin Lawrence, Audra Veach and Joseph Rappoccio, Matthew Barden and Sarah Daghastani, Evan Scarfo, Colin Scarfo and Kathryn Jankura, Jack Linert, Luke Linert, Sam Linert, Ashley Scarfo and Shelby Scarfo. He also leaves his beloved best friend Jude Catalano, his companion Marta Gonzalez, and good friend Richard I. Rothstein. Louis believed that life is a precious gift, and he will be deeply missed by everyone.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 9 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Paul Church, 485 Alling Street, Kensington. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, June 17, 2024 from 4-7 PM at the funeral home. Donations in memory of Louis may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the CT Humane Society or to St. Paul Church.
