Lois (Hames) Ustanowski, 93, of Berlin, CT, wife of the late Leo Ustanowski, passed away on Monday October 9, 2023 at Apple Rehab of Cromwell. Born on July 17, 1930, to the late Mary Labieniec and David H. Hames, Lois grew up in New Britain and attended New Britain High School.
Lois and Leo married in 1951, started their family in New Britain and eventually moved to Kensington. She worked for many years at the Berlin Senior Center and then eventually became a daily visitor to the center once she moved to the Percival Heights senior apartments in 2011. She was forever appreciative of the friendship, guidance, and assistance of Tina Doyle, Berlin Senior Center Director. Lois was an avid card player and enjoyed her evening games with the card playing gang at Percival Heights. She was grateful for her Percival Heights friends, Mickey, Sandy, and Hugh.
Lois was a member of Saint Paul Church Kensington, Saint Paul Ladies Guild, VFW Auxiliary 10732 of Berlin, Berlin Commission for the Aging, and the New Britain Council of Catholic Women.
She is survived by her three daughters and two sons-in law, Karen and Mark Rackliffe, Linda and John Beaudoin, and Donna Conner; four grandchildren, Kris-Ann (Ian) Race, Erin (Patrick) Kelly, Mitchell Conner, and Michelle Conner; four great-grandchildren, Max and Bennett Race, Paxton and Charlotte Kelly; several nieces and nephews, and Marilyn Vanty, who was like a niece. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother David W. Hames.
A Mass of Christian Burial at be celebrated on Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Paul Church, Kensington. Burial will be in Maple Cemetery, Berlin. Calling hours are Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain.
