Lillian E. Thomson, 93, died on January 17, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.  She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, James V. Thomson, who died in 2015.

Born in Philadelphia, PA she was the third daughter of the late John and Lillian (Steward) Lewis.  Lillian was a longtime resident of Hampden before moving to Loomis Lakeside at Reeds Landing in Springfield in 2007. She was formerly employed as a supervisor at the Insurance Company of North America in Springfield, MA, later to become CIGNA, retiring in 1981. Lillian was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Springfield where she served as a preschool Sunday school teacher, led the Pioneer Girls Fellowship, and led the Women’s Missionary Sewing Group.  She was very active with the senior fellowship and participated in the senior drop-in program.  At the time of her passing Lillian was the oldest active member of the church.  She was an avid Red Sox fan, loved jigsaw puzzles, knitting, crocheting, cooking and baking. Lillian will be fondly remembered for her warm hospitality, kindness and sweet smile.

She leaves three children, Ronald E. Thomson and his wife Katherine of Hampden, MA, Barbara Hegg and her husband Dr. James Hegg of Kensington, CT, and Nancy Hansen and her husband Peter of Kensington, CT.  She also leaves eight grandchildren,  Scott (Jen) Thomson, Allison (Jason) Monniere, Kimberly (Christopher) Tillona, Krista (Matthew) Bydlak, Brian Hegg, Eric (Laura) Hansen, Craig and Sarah Hansen, and seven great grandchildren, Hannah Thomson, Sam and Lillian Monniere, Ellie and Vincent Tillona, and Noah and Isla Bydlak.  She is also survived by a sister Elzada Leavesley of Sarasota, FL, two nephews, David Fiedler and George Leavesley,  and many friends.  She was predeceased by her sister, Doris Fiedler.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 3, at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church. A private burial will take place at the Chapin Cemetery in Hampden.  Memorial donations in Lillian’s name may be made to the Evangelical Covenant Church, 915 Plumtree Road, Springfield, MA 01119.
