Lillian Azarigian

Our darling, Lillian Azarigian, 89, departed this world from her home in Farmington to join her late and beloved husband, Varton Azarigian, on Friday June 5, 2009. She was born March 21, 1920, to John Mark and Bertha Vegetarian in Union City in NJ. Lillian moved to New York but couldn't resist the allure of her birth state and frequently visited relatives and friends that she had left behind. It was at an Armenian dance, that she meant the love of her life, Varton. They married May 19, 1945, built a home in New Britain, CT, and had two sons, Robert Mark and Donald Varton Azarigian. Lillian worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard during World War II, Stanley Works in New Britain, and finally as a Special Assistant to the Secretary of State in Connecticut and retired in 1980. She was an active member of the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection's Women's Guild. Every Wednesday, you could find her showing off her skills as one of the world's best Set Back players, at the church's Seniors. Lillian will be remembered for her passionate loyalty to family and friends and her signature expressions, "God be with you" and "Use it in the best of health." She is survived by her children, Robert and Donald Azarigian; and their wives, Cathy and Christine Azarigian; her nephew, Manny Fanarjian; her daughter in law, Rose Azarigian; her grandchildren, Michelle Rogers, Holly, Jennifer, Lauren, Dawn and Michael Azarigian; and her great grandchildren, Kiara and Kayla Azarigian. Her brother in law, Harry Azarigian and her sister in law Alice Bagdigian. Her nieces, Armen Michalak, and Pat Buttero, Her nephews Clifford and Gary Azarigian; and Peter Bagdigian. In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by her sister Rose Fanarjian; brother Edward Vegetarian, and her niece, Carol Hunt. We forever will miss the twinkle in her eye and the angel in her smile, but in the words of her great granddaughter, Kiara, "she will always be in our hearts." We love you Lilly Lou! Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 am at the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection, 1910 Stanley St., New Britain. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St. New Britain. Donations can be made to the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection.
