Lifteria “Lettye” Stathos, beloved sister and aunt, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2017 after a long illness. She was the widow of Nicholas Stathos.
Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Nota (Politis) Karlames. Lettye was a lifelong resident of New Britain. She attended New Britain Schools and was a graduate of Central Connecticut State University with a BS in Psychology and an MS in Community Psychology. She was formerly employed as an Accountant and Consultant at the State of Connecticut Department of Education.
Lettye was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, she served as President of the Ladies Philoptochos Society for many years. She was also a member of the Daughters of Penelope, the Women’s Club of New Britain, and the College Club of New Britain. For many years Lettye served as Chairperson of the cultural room for the annual St. George Church Greek festival. She was also one of the founding members of the Church library. She was listed in Who’s Who of American Women. Lettye loved to travel, garden and bake greek cookies her specialty being kourabiedes.
Surviving are her sister, Elizabeth Karlames; four nephews, Peter Beresford (Eileen), Ronald Beresford, James Beresford, and Philip Beresford; great nieces and great nephew, Amy Stewart (Eric), Lisa Alger (Kyle), Kevin Beresford (Mary), and Anna Beresford; A great great niece and four great great nephews and other relatives in Athens, Greece. She was predeceased by her sisters, Bessie Beresford, Alice, Mary and Lifteria Karlames and a brother George Karlames.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 AM at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. A calling hour will be held at church from 10-11 AM. Donations may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 301 West Main St., New Britain, CT 06052. Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.St. George Greek Orthodox Church
