Leroy E. Jones Sr.

Leroy E. Jones Sr. (95), a devoted family man, proud Marine, and lifelong caretaker, passed away on March 13, 2026, in New Britain, Connecticut. Born on September 30, 1930, in New Britain, Leroy lived a life defined by hard work, dedication to his loved ones, and an unwavering sense of responsibility.

From an early age, Leroy embraced the role of caretaker. As the eldest boy in a family of eleven children, he left school to help support his family. This selfless commitment to others became a hallmark of Leroy’s character throughout his life.

Leroy proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. A dedicated veteran, he cherished his time in service and often wore his Semper Fi hats with pride until his final days. His military service instilled in him a deep sense of discipline and loyalty that he carried into every aspect of his life.

After completing his service, Leroy embarked on a long and industrious career. He was employed by Tuttle and Bailey in New Britain for nearly three decades before continuing his work at National Eastern in Plainville until his well-earned retirement. His strong work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident in all he did.

Leroy’s devotion to family was unparalleled. He was predeceased by Violet (Piclardi) Jones, his beloved wife of over 50 years, whom he cared for with extraordinary dedication during her battle with cancer. He also extended his caregiving nature to others in need, including assisting his sister-in-law and brother-in-law with medical appointments and errands when they required support.

He is survived by his son Leroy Jones Jr.; daughter Carey Beth (Lamare) Smedberg and her husband Paul; granddaughter Melissa (Lamare) Rinaldi and her husband Eric; grandson Matthew Smedberg; great-grandson Cameron Rinaldi; and sister Carol D'Agostino as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Leroy was predeceased by his parents Leroy F. and Rita Jones, his stepson Paul Eagles, three brothers (Robert, Allen and Kenneth), six sisters (Dorothy, Jean, Barbara, Shirley, Beverly and Donna). He leaves behind a legacy of love that will endure through those who knew him.

In addition to being a steadfast provider and caregiver, Leroy found joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid fan of UCONN basketball, particularly the UCONN Women’s team, whose games brought him great enjoyment over the years.

Leroy’s life was one of quiet heroism—marked not by grand gestures but by countless acts of kindness and sacrifice for those around him. His memory will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known him.

Burial services were held privately.
