Leon D. Darakjian

Leon "Uncle" D. Darakjian, 86, of New Britain, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at the Hospital of Central CT in New Britain.
Born in Bagdad, Iraq, he was the son of the late Taniel and Mariam (Atamian) Darakjian.  Leon was a New Britain resident for the past 50 years and was known by all those around him simply as "Uncle" as his kind nature made everyone feel as if they were family.  Leon was the life of the party and always brought an amazing vibrancy to any situation.
He was formerly employed as a tailor at G. Fox & Co., Macy's, and Allen Collins before retiring.  He was a member of St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church in New Britain.  He enjoyed Boston Red Sox Baseball, Pittsburg Steeler's Football, and the horse races.
Surviving are, sister-in-law, Marta Darakjian; brother, Sarkis Darakjian; nieces and nephews, Katherine Darakjian and her husband Daniel Zaborowski, Shant Darakjian, Lisa Wells and her husband Robert Wells, Lenna Darakjian, Aida Avazian and her husband Armand, and Samira Alias, as well as several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.  He was predeceased by his brother Garabed Darakjian.
A calling hour will be held Saturday, March 8th at 10 AM at St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church in New Britain, followed by a funeral service. A private burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery New Britain.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church.  Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
