Laura Marie Savona

Laura Marie Savona was born in New Britain, CT on August 21, 1960. She was a happy baby with a big challenge. She was born with Spina Bifida. Despite that, she was able to go to a regular school, Smalley Elementary School, eventually graduating from New Britain High School. While health issues got in the way of college, she found hobbies she loved, especially knitting. She developed quite the talent, knitting everything from scarves and blankets to sweaters and vests in an array of patterns. She loved Heavy Metal music and professional wrestling, Sylvester Stallone and any movie he was in. She loved the water, especially the beaches in Rhode Island. She learned to drive a hand control car and moved into her own apartment in Newington. A chronic health problem forced her into nursing home care in 2018. She moved to long-term care in Brighton, MA in 2021. She lived there and improved under excellent care for the last five years. She was also closer to her brothers and families. This allowed them all to be together more than was possible before.

Laura had a keen sense of what she wanted and the will to go for it. She was fiercely loyal and independent. Laura fought valiantly for her life and lived the life she wanted, with all of the triumphs, joys, mistakes and connection that we all need.

Laura is remembered with love by her mother, Wanda C. Savona of Milton, MA; her brothers, Lorenzo Savona and Leonardo Savona; her sisters-in-law, Susan Savona and Kristen Repa-Savona; her nephews and nieces, Jacob Savona and his wife Gaby, Isaac Savona, Amelia Savona, Penelope Savona and Satchel Savona; and her long-time companion, William King. She is predeceased by her father, Marco S. Savona.

Laura leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion and resilience that will continue to inspire all those whose lives she touched.
