Laura May Brown Conger, 99, of Berlin, died peacefully Sunday morning at Ledgecrest Healthcare Center. She was the widow of Ellsworth Conger. Born in Berlin, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Nellie Austin Brown. Laura was a Berlin resident most of her life. She was the oldest living member of the Berlin Congregational Church, a member of the Women's Federation, the Berlin Grange, AARP, and the Berlin Senior Center. Surviving are two sisters, Shirley Recck of Berlin and Helen O'Connell of Kensington; a daughter-in-law, Helena Deavers of New Britain; two grandchildren and their spouses, John and Tanya Deavers of New Hartford and Cynthia and Alex DaMico of Newburg New York, many nieces and nephews and dear friends. She was predeceased by a son, John H. Deavers; by two sisters, Nellie Rich and Hazel Sheldon, and by a brother, Earl H. Brown. She loved her family, nature, reading and writing poetry and her church. When she was 95 she taught herself French. She lived a long happy life. She was a mother figure to many and a faithful friend. The family would like to send a special thank you to Lisa McKeon, who so lovingly cared for her. Thank you also to the Berlin Home Health Care Association and the nurses and aides at Ledgecrest. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 23rd at 1:00 PM at the Berlin Congregational Church. Burial will be in Maple Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
