Larry A. Gallupe, 81, of New Britain, beloved husband of Linda J. (Saucier) Gallupe passed away on February 21, 2026. He was born in a small farming community in Northern Maine. He loved Maine and for many years, each fall, assisted his sister and brother-in-law with the potato harvest. He was predeceased by his parents Bernard and Lena Gallupe, brothers Wallace and Baby Bernard and sisters Laura, Dorothy, Silvia (“Tib”), Esther and Marilyn. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Linda (Saucier) Gallupe and two children, son David Gallupe and son Drew Gallupe and his wife Eileen of Berlin. He also leaves four grandchildren, Alina Gallupe, Leila Miano (Gallupe) and husband Andrew with whom he shared a very special relationship and often commented that his granddaughters were the best gift he had ever received; grandsons Jarok Dauber and Dustin Gallupe entered the family later in his life for which he was incredibly grateful. Larry is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Robert Churchill and Donald Sperry.
After spending 3 years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict and achieving the rank of Sergeant E-5, he spent 5 years as a potato farmer before moving to New Britain, CT in 1970. Larry spent nearly 30 years working with children and their families at Klingberg Child and Family Center, first as a direct service provider and later as an administrator. During his retirement years, he worked as a Starter at Stanley Golf Course and enjoyed playing golf with his Seniors Club friends weekday mornings.
Larry took evening and weekend courses for several years to earn a BS and MS degree from Central Connecticut State University. He liked to joke that he may be the only individual around who earned two degrees while walking to every class.
An active community member, Larry served as the President of the New Britain/Berlin Rotary Club. As a Rotarian, he was honored as his club’s first Rotarian of the Year and was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship. Larry also served as Chairman of the Board for the Wheeler Regional YMCA in Plainville, CT and CW Resources in New Britain, CT. Other activities included serving on the New Britain Public Library Board; an original member of the Salvation Army Holiday Castle Committee; a recipient of the United Community Services Award from the United Way; served as the President of the Stanley Seniors Golf Club for 3 years and served as corporator of the New Britain General Hospital, the New Britain YMCA and The Boys and Girls Club of New Britain.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Calvary Church, 1855 Albany Ave., West Hartford, CT 06117. There will be calling hours from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., then a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception at the church.
