June S. Calderone

June Isabelle (Schroeder) Calderone, 82, longtime resident of Berlin, died peacefully at Ledgecrest Convalescent Home on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. Born on the family farm in Berlin, CT, Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1929, she attended Worthington Ridge School and Berlin High School. June began her employment history at Continental Can where she met her future husband, Vito Calderone. The two were married on September 16, 1950 and remained together until Vito's death on December 20, 2008. A mother who unconditionally loved and supported her family, she postponed entering the work force in favor of raising her two sons and instilling in them a sense of ethical and moral responsibility. With her children grown June gained employment as an inspector at Diversified Packaging, a position she held from 1979-1982. In 1984 she was hired by the Berlin Housing Authority as an Administrative Assistant and remained there until her retirement in 2002. A woman of many interests and pursuits, June enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, reading, murder mysteries, game shows, jewelry, and the lives of famous people, especially movie stars. An avid Red Sox fan who annually followed the team's success, her favorite players were Carl Yastrzemski and David Ortiz. June is survived by her two sons, the Rev. Dr. Thomas V. Calderone, and his wife Barbel Roder of Suffield, Scott Calderone and his wife Heidi of Berlin, three grandchildren Jonathan Calderone, Amanda Calderone, and Melissa Calderone; five step grandchildren, Nicolas Roder-Hanna, Julie Roder-Hanna, Sarah Bartholomew, Jill Larson and Jack Burns. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:30 am at Berlin Congregational Church, 878 Worthington Ridge, Berlin. Burial will be in Maple Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Monday morning from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain.
