Julia "Yuya" Melendez Cruz, 83, of Oviedo, FL, a former New Britain resident, died Wednesday, May 23, 2007 in Orlando, FL. Born in San German, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Juan Cruz and Monserrate Torres. She was a resident of New Britain before moving to Florida 15 years ago. Julia was formerly employed at Lexington Convalescent Home in New Britain and was a former member of the Christian Pentecostal Church and the Spanish Speaking Center. Surviving are her children, Nitza Rodriguez of New Britain, Nidia Cruz of Florida, Jose M. DelValle and his wife Minerva DelValle of Texas, and Nancy Perez of New Britain; 19 grandchildren, and 40 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Hilda Rodriguez. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main St., New Britain and at 10:00 AM at the Christian Pentecostal Church, 119 West Main St., New Britain. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 7-9 PM.
