Julia Carrier

Julia Carrier, 94, of New Britain, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.  She was the widow of Albert J. Carrier who died on July 31, 2018.

Born in St. Patrice de Beaurivage, Quebec, Canada, she was one of 26 children of William and Marie Louise (Landry) Croteau.   Julia was a resident of New Britain for the past 67 years.  Julia was employed by CW Resources for many years directing the supported employment food service program at the New Britain Senior Center and was instrumental in starting the Meals on Wheels program which has grown to serve over 8,500 hot and cold meals a day to homebound residents in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. She was happiest spending time with her devoted husband, Al, and loving family. Always optimistic and deeply religious, she was a beautiful example of how life should be lived.  Julia was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, the Ladies Guild at church, Ladies of St. Ann Society, and CCARC. As a corporator, she was closely connected to CCARC since the 1950s when it was started as a grassroots agency. The Carrier family was honored by CCARC on several occasions, and an administrative building was dedicated in their honor.

Julia is survived by four children, Diane Walker and her husband Richard of Plainville, Denise Carrier of New Britain, William Carrier and his wife Elaine of Holliston, MA, Atty. Michael Carrier and his wife Rita of New Britain; a sister, Madeleine Houle of Pawtucket, RI; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So.
