Josephine R. Holmquist, 101, of Berlin, died peacefully on Sunday, March 12, 2006 at Ridgeview Convalescent Home. She was the widow of Charles Holmquist. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Venanzio and Sparandia Maffiolini Pedemonti. She was a life-long Berlin resident and was formerly employed at American Paper Goods. Josephine later ran the family grocery store, Pedemonti Market, and also worked for Town Foods Center in Berlin, before retiring. She served as a caregiver to family members, including her father, her husband, and her brother. Josephine was a sharp, witty individual who was able to take care of herself for 100 years. She was a member of St. Paul's Church in Kensington. Surviving are four nieces, Irene Timko, Evelyn Cotto, Loretta Irace and Elsie Nye and three nephews, Maurice Cattanio, Thomas Pedemonti and Richard Pedemonti. She was predeceased by three brothers, Raymond Pedemonti, Angelo Pedemonti and John Pedemonti and by four sisters, Julia Cattanio, Jenny Cattanio, Bridgit Angelini and Mary Bighinatti. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Paul's Church. Burial will be in West Lane Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at Erickson-Hansen funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain on Wednesday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Church, 485 Alling St., Kensington, CT 06037.
