Joseph F. Carlin 61, loving husband and best friend of Laura M. Carlin, passed from this life surrounded by his loving and supportive family on Tuesday May 12, 2015. Son of the late Samuel F. Carlin and Josephine (Samaha) Carlin, Joe graduated from Torrington High School and went on to become a Registered Radiological Special's Tech. He worked at the Newington VA for many years before transferring to the U.S. Postal Office on Weston St. in Hartford. He retired in 2014. Along with his wife, Laura, he leaves his devoted children, his daughter Tara M. and her husband Craig Sikora of Haddam, his son Samuel J. Carlin of Kensington, and his son Justin F. and his wife Juanita J. Carlin of Farmington. He was blessed with 3 beautiful grandchildren, Liam P. and Declan Q. Sikora and Maris L. Carlin. They touched his heart and warmed his soul. Joe also leaves his dearest sister Sami J. Carlin and his nephew William S. Carlin of Torrington, along with numerous relatives and friends. We will hold on to the many wonderful memories of camping trips, times spent sitting around the campfires listening to The Moody Blues at his favorite place on earth, Conway Lake, exceptional hikes with friends at Burr Pond and basically every time we were with him. A NY Yankee, NY Giant fan, and an adept cribbage player, he instilled his attitude of being happy right where he was. Joe was a friend to most anyone he met, a loving and content man. He will be greatly missed. Our family would like to thank the exceptional professionals at the Emergency Department and Critical Care Unit of the Hospital of Central CT., especially Kelsey, Melissa, Sophia, Nicole, Nathan, and Liz for their care of our Joe. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 5 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main Street, New Britain. Calling hours are Thursday, from 2-5 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and in keeping with Joe's lifelong generosity, donations may be made to the CT. Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, 06111, The Friendship Service Center, P.O. Box 1896, New Britain, 06050, or to the charity of choice.
