Joseph Bijas, 95, of Kensington, husband of Irene Bijas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the Hospital of Central CT in New Britain.
Born in Zamosc, Poland, he was the son of the late John and Marianna (Rogowska) Bijas. During World War II, he lived in Germany. In 1947, he moved to Belgium and in 1948, he married Irene Warton. In 1953, he moved to New Britain, CT where he was formerly employed as a Tool & Die Machinist at Atlantic Machine for two years and for many years at Fafnir Bearing Co., retiring in 1987. Joseph was an avid gardener, and someone who could fix anything. He loved sports, especially soccer and Duke basketball.
Surviving are his wife, Irene (Warton) Bijas; his son, Jan Bijas of Aiken, SC; a son-in-law, Gary Simoneau and his wife Maria; his granddaughter, Nicole Manno, her husband Jack, and their children, Jack and Luc of Fairfield; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Edith Simoneau and by his grandson, Michael Simoneau.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Church in New Britain. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park. A calling hour will be held on Thursday morning form 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St. New Britain.Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home
