Jose F. Nazare

Jose F. Nazare, 87, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of the late Idalina Nazare for 46 years passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, with his loving family by his side. He was born on January 2, 1937 in Casais Martanes, Portugal and was the son of the late Jose and Maria (Jesus Flor) Nazare. Jose will always be remembered as a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend.

He and his wife were married in Portugal on April 16, 1967 and as newlyweds moved to the United States to begin their life together. Jose worked for Spencer Turbine, retiring after 35 years of service. He loved to cook, grow vegetables in his backyard, reminisce of his time in the Portuguese military, tell stories of his time working the trolley cars in Portugal, and visiting his homeland of Portugal. He was also a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church and The Portuguese Club of Hartford. But his true joy was spending time cooking for his family, friends, and Portuguese community. Jose was well known in the Portuguese community for his love of making rice pudding.

Jose leaves behind his daughters Susan Reynolds and her husband Jimmy of Newington, Judith Arborio and her husband Aquino of Wethersfield, his son Michael and his wife Sonia of West Hartford. Jose was blessed to have grandchildren Kalyn, Dylan, Mia, Benjamin, Ashley, and Nathaniel; they will miss him very much. In addition, he leaves his sisters Maria do Carmo Carvalho and brother-in-law Jorge Carvalho, Julia Bispo and her husband Luis Bispo, and his brother Manuel Nazare.  He also leaves his brother-in-law Antonio Jorge and his wife Maria Antonia, nieces and nephews Ricky Carvalho and Crista Lagace, Brian and Ashley Carvalho, John and Cila Jorge, Lina Somma, and many great nieces and nephews along with numerous extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his in laws Joao and Maria (Olinda) Jorge, and Maria G. Sousa. Jose’s family would also like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Hartford Hospital, Inpatient Rehabilitation and the Hartford HealthCare at Home Hospice Care for their care and compassion.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Kane St., Hartford, with the burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours will be on Thursday, from 9:00 a.m to 10:15 a.m. at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain. Memorial donations in Jose’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to Our Lady of Fatima Church.
