Dr. John Pierce Mcintosh

Dr. John Pierce McIntosh, 99, of Kensington, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005 at New Britain General Hospital. He was the widower of Bessie Burnham McIntosh who died in 1982. Born in Hinckley, NY, he was a son of the late Bert C. and Daisy Pierce McIntosh. He was a former New Britain resident and a Kensington resident since 1937. Dr. McIntosh was a veterinarian, having practiced with Dr. Rackcliff in New Britain until 1937 when he opened his own practice and Animal Hospital in Berlin. He retired from his practice in1981. Dr. McIntosh was formerly active on a number of boards and committees in the Town of Berlin. He served two terms on the Berlin Town Council, and also served numerous times on the Finance Committee and on the Board of Education. He was a charter member of the New Britain Kiwanis Club and the Constructive Workshop. He was a charter member and past president of the CCARC. He served as the Berlin Fair veterinarian for many years. He was a member of the Kensington Congregational Church and was a US Army Veteran of World War II. Surviving are a son, Theodore R. McIntosh of Shelburne Falls, MA; a daughter, Judith L. McIntosh of Kensington; two sisters, Ruth Postl of Kensington and Mabel Wood of Titusville, FL; a daughter-in-law, Esther L. McIntosh of Kensington; a grandson, Scott McIntosh of Kensington; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a son, John F. McIntosh, and by two brothers, Donald McIntosh and Bert McIntosh. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Calling hours are Friday from 5-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the CCARC, 950 Slater Rd., New Britain, CT 06053.
