John G. Jones, 90, a long time New Britain resident, passed away on Monday, August 31, 201 5 at the Rocky Hill Veterans Home surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late Yonan and Shalim Jones. John was a resident of New Britain and Glastonbury. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving with the 60th Infantry Regiment as a Heavy Machine Gunner and Sharpshooter and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. John graduated from the Waltham School of Watch Design and he was well known as the owner of Friendly Jewelers in New Britain for 37 years, before retiring. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Glastonbury. Surviving are two daughters, Christine Massi and her husband Paul of Southington, and Marlene Jones of East Hartford; three grandchildren, Allyson, Nicholas and Jenna Massi and many nieces and nephews including his special niece, Margaret Abraham. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marguerite (Backus) Jones, a sister, Joan Abraham, and by a niece, Marion Carey. He also leaves his former wife, Doris Hoffenberg. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff on "B-Lower" at Rocky Hill Veterans Home for their care and support. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain. Burial will be in St. Thomas Assyrian Cemetery.
