John J. Dagata, Sr.

John J. Dagata, Sr., 70, of New Britain, passed away unexpectedly at the Hospital of Central CT, New Britain on Friday. He was the beloved husband of Rita (Maxim) Dagata for 47 years. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late John and Rose (Satalino) Dagata. John was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He worked closely with his parents at Dagata's, the family restaurant in 1966 until it was sold in 1974. John also worked as the Assessor for the Town of Wethersfield for many years until his retirement in 2003. He enjoyed spending time with his family at their beach house in Old Lyme. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his son John J. Dagata, Jr., his daughter and son-in-law Sheri and Jeff Winakor, his son and daughter-in-law Joseph A. and Christine Dagata, his son Michael J. Dagata, his four grandchildren, Alex and Sydney Winakor, Jack Dagata, Riley Rose Dagata, his sister-in-law Phyllis D'agata and her husband Ernest, a special niece and nephew, Denise and Bill King, a special great niece Julianna King and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Diane Lombardo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 am at St. Ann Church, New Britain. Burial, with Military Honors, will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday morning from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Ann Church, 47 Clark St., New Britain, CT 06051.
