Joanne V. Peters

JoAnne Valvo Peters, 81, of Rocky Hill, passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on the morning of November 5, 2022. She was born on April 3, 1941, to the late Salvatore and Edith Valvo.

JoAnne is survived by her children, Roger Peters (Ann), Lisa Avolese (Joe) and Laurie Peters (Matthew Hetherman), and their father Roger Peters. She leaves behind her most beloved grandchildren, who were the lights of her life: Nicholas Peters, Matthew Peters, Jessica Doughty (Robby), Jennifer Peters, Ashley Peters (Ian Humphreys), Emily Farina (Frank), Cayla Sliva (Steven), along with her two great-granddaughters, Liliana Grace Farina and Millie Rose Sliva. She also leaves behind dear cousins and lifelong friends.

JoAnne enjoyed spending summers with her family in Old Lyme, CT. Her light shined bright always, but was undoubtedly the brightest when she hosted the holidays, inviting family and friends near and far to gather, eat, and celebrate traditions surrounded by so much love and energy.

JoAnne devoted her working life to the Italian American community in Hartford and various businesses on Franklin Ave. She worked at and eventually managed “the Bank” (Hartford Home S&L, Eagle Bank, and Webster). She later worked at Gordon Bonetti Florist and Mintatos Dentist, always forming beautiful family-like relationships at every turn.

JoAnne was the matriarch of her family, and a loving friend to so many. She will always be remembered for the way she embraced you whether you were her family, friend, or even a total stranger. She would talk and listen to you for hours about your life and give her advice and opinion when needed. She will be truly missed by all.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish, St. James Church, 767 Elm St., Rocky Hill.  Please meet directly at church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 10, 2022 from 4 – 7 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S.
