The family of Joanne (Steele) Anderson, 83, sadly announce her passing on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018. She was born in Massachusetts, daughter of the late John Steele and Marion Steele Hayes. After her marriage to the late Donald F. Anderson, she lived in Malden, MA until 1970 when she moved to New Britain with her family when her husband became the Physical Director at the New Britain YMCA. After her husband's death in 1983, Joanne worked at the YMCA for several years as the Membership Secretary where she made many friends. Her bright smile and happy disposition seemed to brighten the people she saw on a daily basis.
She was a dearly loved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and enjoyed being the Matriarch of her large and beloved family, always available for guidance, compassion, support, and her unfaltering patience. She loved her family above all else. She was the core of her family and cherished the times when they could all gather together. Joanne was a life-long reader and enjoyed the simple things in life - - books, trees, the ocean, UConn Women's Basketball, but she especially loved rooting for her favorite team, the Boston Red Sox. She was an avid fan since childhood.
Joanne is survived by her six loving and devoted children and their wonderful spouses; her sons Steven (Lynn), David (Susan), Mark ( Teresa), Glenn (Lynn), and her daughters Debra (Billy) and Susan (Tad). She always said how lucky she was to have a big family that helped and cared for her so willingly. She was blessed with eleven grandchildren and shared many happy memories with Katelyn (Emily), Douglas, Jay (Christiana), Samantha, Victoria (Matt), Julie (Rich), Brian, Meagan (Jeff), McKenna and Chase and Andie. Also with her ten great-grandchildren, Mattingly, Max, Ryan, Brynley , Kaymin, Alaina, Eloise, Piper, and Colton. She also leaves behind her two sisters, Jacquelyn in New York, Connie in Florida and her brother Richard Steele of California and nieces and nephew. Joanne was predeceased by John Buczek, her dearest friend and beloved companion.
A memorial service will held on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 at 11 AM at Bethany Covenant Church, 785 Mill St., Berlin. In her honor, please consider doing a random act of kindness for someone.Bethany Covenant Church
