Joan P Lorenson
Hilda Joan Price Lorenson, 97, of Cromwell, Connecticut passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Pilgrim Manor.
Joan was born in Breem, Gloucester, England to R. Thomas and Emily Brookbanks Price on January 18, 1921. In 1929, she immigrated to Torrington, Connecticut with her Mom, Dad and sister Yvonne. Joan attended the Torrington schools and graduated from the Torrington High School in 1938 and followed up with a year at the Executive School of Business. She worked as a secretary for Michael’s Jewelers where she met Ralph Oscar Lorenson from Bristol, CT, whom she married in February, 1946. They lived in Torrington, CT until 1952, when they moved to Bristol. There she was an active member of the Queen St. Covenant Church. After moving to Verona, NJ in 1964 she became assistant to the Curator at the Montclair Art Museum and a member of Montclair Covenant Church. In 1984 moved to Chatham, New Jersey before moving to Covenant Village of Cromwell, CT in 2001.
She is survived by three children: Jean Lorenson and Robert Yamazaki of Pooler, Georgia, Richard Lorenson and Debbie Lorenson of Westport Island, Maine, Robert Lorenson and Brenda Kohl of Hampton, New Hampshire; grandchildren Gregory Lorenson and Devin Clary, of Clancy, Montana (Gr. Grandson – Emeric) and Gordon and Christina Lorenson of Gladstone, New Jersey (Gr. Granddaughters -Kailan and Dylan). Joan will be missed by members of her extended family and friends. She is predeceased by her husband Ralph O. Lorenson and her sister Yvonne Price Bradley.
Joan was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting. She was active in Women’s programs and served on many committees in the churches, the PTA and with the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Bethany Covenant Church, Berlin. Interment will follow in the Bethany Covenant Church Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Benevolent Care Fund of Covenant Village of Cromwell, 52 Missionary Rd, Cromwell, CT 06416, Bethany Covenant Church, 785 Mill St., Berlin, CT 06037 or Middlesex Hospice, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457.
