Jeffrey P. Ekwurtzel, of New Britain died January 16, 2014, after a long illness. He was 63 years old. The eldest son of the late Donald W. and Margery Vahlstrom Ekwurtzel, he resided in New Britain for most of his life. He attended local schools and Kingswood School, and had been a member of Bethany Covenant Church. As a young man, Jeffrey enjoyed travel to exotic locations, and he would often regale listeners with tales of his journeys. He worked for a period of time in the 1960's at Ravizza's Nursery, Kensington and periodically tried his hand at foundry work, making castings at Commercial Foundry, a business once owned by his paternal grandfather. He enjoyed spending time at the Connecticut shore and also in rural Vermont; for a brief time he made his home in that state. Jeffrey had a fascination with, and an appreciation of beautiful things, both artistic and mechanical. He had a love of music and possessed the ability to harmonize a song in pitch-perfect voice. The Ekwurtzel family wishes to thank those who have helped and supported Jeff, especially Timothy Grace of New Britain for his selfless dedication and continued understanding of Jeffrey over many years. A private Memorial Service and Internment are being planned. Donations may be made in his memory to The Friendship Center, New Britain (http://friendshipservicecenter.org) or Bethany Covenant Church, Berlin (http://www.bethanycovenant.org)
