Jean Gay

Jean (Egan) Gay, 63, of Southington, passed away unexpectedly on Monday after a short illness. She was the beloved wife of Charles Gay. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late John Joseph and Mary (Boyce) Egan. Jean is a former New Britain resident, attending local schools and a graduate of Pulaski High School, Class of 1969. After working for Aetna Life Insurance Company in Hartford, she left her work in 1972 in order to raise her family. Jean returned to the work force in 1986 as a Nurse's Assistant at Newington Healthcare Care One, retiring in 2012. She was a devoted wife and an excellent mother to her three children. A lifelong dog lover, Jean leaves her little black cocker spaniel, Shadow. She loved flower gardening in containers, watching country music videos and collecting music CD's. In addition to her husband, Jean is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Michael and Nancy Spence of Temecula, CA, a daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Christopher Holyst of Southington, her grandsons Ethan and Jacob Spence, a sister Patricia Egan of New Britain and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Susan Spence. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be Wednesday morning from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home.
