On June 13, 2013, Janice (Ryder) Meyers, of Kensington, died at home surrounded by her friends that she called her "family". She was taken from this earth to be in heaven with all that left this world before her. Janice was the daughter of the late Howard and Lillian (Johnston) Ryder. She was predeceased by her husbands, Paul Wentland and Edmund Meyers. Janice was a well educated woman who enjoyed the profession of being a teacher for many years. She was a graduate of New Britain Senior High School, the Willimantic State Teachers College, and received her Master's Degree from the University of Hartford. She was employed as a school teacher, working in West Hartford for ten years and in New Britain at Smith School also for ten years before retiring. She was a member of the National Education Association, the Connecticut Education Association, and the National Honor Society of Education. When she was not teaching, she enjoyed shopping, traveling, and most of all reading her Danielle Steele books. What Janice loved and enjoyed the most, was the time she spent with her Scottish Terrier, Skye Ryder. He brought so much joy and love into her life. She leaves behind several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many friends and neighbors, who she spent each and every day with. We would like to thank her caregivers, Sofia Bartkowicz and most recently Zofia Podsiadlo for their care and dedication. To the staff of the VNA Hospice, especially Alice and Wioletta, we thank you for your guidance and compassion through Janice's difficult days. Janice was also predeceased by her brothers, Howard, Donald, Kenneth and Robert Ryder, and by two sisters, Dorothy Whalen and Barbara Marple. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain. Burial will be in Maple Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942. Janice Meyers left this world the way she lived in life, proudly and her way.
