Janet R. (Eielson) Sandstrom, 92, of Cromwell, passed away peacefully on Saturday at Pilgrim Manor. She was the beloved wife of David T. Sandstrom. Born in New Haven, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Eiel S. and Julia (Johnson) Eielson. Janet has been a resident of Cromwell for several years, moving from Newington in 2001 where she had resided since 1963. She was also a resident of Oakland, CA where she and her husband began to raise their family. Janet is a long time member of Bethany Covenant Church of Berlin. She enjoyed making her home welcome to all and her hospitality was second to none. Her home was always "bright and sunny, where you always felt welcome." Her kitchen was known as Janet's Galley, where she was always happily working for others and her family, especially working very hard keeping her son-in-law and grandsons full and well cared for. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Edward "Chip" E. Meeker, Jr. of Newington, her two grandsons, Air Force Captain Edward "Ted" E. Meeker III of VA, Andrew Meeker of IL, her brother Judge Rodney Eielson of FL, her sister Doris Raynor of Hamden, her sister-in-law Isabelle Richardson of MA, her brother-in-law Robert Sandstrom and his wife Judy of FL, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am at Bethany Covenant Church, 785 Mill St., Berlin. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main St., New Britain.
