James Bombanti, 90, of Kensington passed away on Monday, April 30, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. He was the beloved husband of Gloria (Mumford) Bombanti. Born in West Hartford, he was the son of the late James and Antonina (Piazza) Bombanti. James has been a Kensington resident for the past four years, previously residing in Rocky Hill, Florida and Newington. James was self employed as a carpenter, retiring in 1981. He loved spending time with his family and in recent years enjoyed keeping up with his friends on Facebook. James also loved gardening, fishing, hunting, spending time at his beach house in Westbrook, and boating. He was a Staff Sergeant in the CT State Guard for many years. In addition to his wife, James is survived by his three daughters, Antoinette Tripp and her husband Steve of Garwood, New Jersey, Kathleen Lopolito of Colchester, Linda Pisko and her husband Larry of Berlin; a brother, Patrick Bombanti and his wife Shirley of Rocky Hill; a sister, Josephine Rosa of Rocky Hill; eight grandchildren, Stacey Tripp-Valentin and her husband John, Stephen Tripp and his wife Sharon, Jamie Tripp Utitus and her husband Anthony, Gloria Prill-Colwick, Joseph Butler, James Pisko, Stephanie Pisko, and Ashley Pisko; eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John Bombanti and his wife Lena; his sisters Carmella Sbalcio and her husband Joseph, and Salvatrice Bombanti; and brothers-in-law, Salvatore Rosa and Harry Mumford and his wife, Hilda Mumford Franko. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:30 am at St. Paul Church, Kensington. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Calling hours will be Thursday morning from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain.
