Izabel Kanderian Zakko

Izabel Kanderian Zakko, 94, passed away on October 8, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She is the beloved mother of Angham Zakko and grandmother of Dr. Rafid Kasir and Natalire Kasir. Izabel was born the first child to the late Selma and Sirob Kanderian in 1924. In 1950 she was married to her husband Foad Zakko. Izabel earned her master’s degree in Home Economics in 1958. She became the dean of the College of Education for Girls, previously Queen Alia College of Baghdad. Izabel was the head of the Home Economics Department at the University of Baghdad and a professor there for 25 years. She wrote and published three textbooks then which were the first references in her subject. In addition to being so remarkable, intelligent, talented, kindhearted, Izabel was always happy and grateful.  She saw beauty in and was kind to all God’s creation. Izabel was a great and wonderful mother, her constant smile, great guidance and love will live in our hearts forever. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Foad Zakko. Izabel is survived by her daughter and three sons, and their families, her brother and sisters and a large extended family. Funeral services will take place at St. George Armenian Church, 22 White St, Hartford, CT 06114, starting at 9:00 am on Saturday October 13. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford.  A mercy memorial dinner will be held in Farmington late afternoon. May the Lord be with her and grant her rest, peace and eternal happiness in heaven. Neither can they die any more: for they are equal to the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. Luke 20:36.
