Isaac Ortiz Espada

Isaac Ortiz Espada aka Papito, age 74, of New Britain, CT., passed away unexpectedly on 9/24/21 after a brief illness with his loving family by his side.  Isaac was born on 9/28/46 in Coamo, Puerto Rico to the late Cristobal Ortiz and Perfecta Espada.  Isaac graduated and attended school in Coamo, Puerto Rico where he also met his spouse, Lilliam Vazquez.  In 1985, both settled their family in New Britain, CT.  Isaac was a veteran having served in the US Army.  He was active in his community, church, and local Spanish radio station.  Isaac had a great sense of humor, beautiful smile, and infectious laughter.  He enjoyed playing the guitar, maracas, guiro, and also loved dancing.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Isaac is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lilliam Vazquez, his four children: Lillian Oquendo and her husband, Reynaldo Oquendo of New Britain, CT; Waleska Berrios and her husband Luis Berrios of Chesterfield, Virginia; Alexa Romer and her husband Hector Romer of New Britain, CT.; Isaac Ortiz and his wife Melissa Ortiz of New Britain, CT; and his 10 grandchildren:  Lilliana, Jelissa, Reinaliz, Benigno, Ely, Isaac, Cristobal, Christian, Isaiah, and Tiffany.  He also leaves behind siblings, nieces, and nephews.

Isaac’s family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff at Uconn’s John Dempsey Hospital for their wonderful care of Isaac and the doctors, nurses, and aids for their many acts of kindness and support during his illness.

Calling hours will be held on Friday 10/1/21 from 5-8 PM at the Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main St., New Britain, CT.  Funeral services will be held on 10/2/21 at 10 AM and will be followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery at 11 AM.  Masks required.
